Hello, I’ve waited here for you...

Everlong

UK 7” Marble Blue, Vinyl Single
Good ol’ vinyl 7” singles. I can’t think of another medium that I love more than this one. Unfortunately, the Foo Fighters haven’t been spoiling us with much of these since the last 7” release of Long Road To Ruin. It’s a crying shame I must say. Because of the lack of physical singles these days, a lot of bands release special vinyl editions of their singles. Be it a 10” or a 7” single, it’s a cool way to give the fans what they desire. Let’s hope the guys have some of those in store for us in the near future.
Now let’s talk about this particular release for a while. Most of the 7 inch singles the Foos have released over the years, are pretty easy to come by. Some of them are obviously easier to obtain than others, but in general there are not so many “holy grails” of them out there. This Everlong single actually isn’t an exception, but it has gained a kind of mythical status over the years. Some how people find them hard to get, and they go for a lot of money on e-bay and other auction sites. This has always striked me as strange. Since I bought this one when it came out (this one has actually been played!), I haven't had the trouble of looking for one.
The previous 7 inch single Monkey Wrench was pressed in quite large numbers, and given the fact that it sold great, we can only assume that this Everlong single was pressed in quite a large quantity also. So why is this Everlong 7 inch so wanted then? Is it because the vinyl has a really cool colour? Is it because of it’s artwork? Or have we, as collectors, created the myth ourselves?
Alright, we are not going to awnser these questions in this simple little blog. Simply because I have no real awnsers. The only thing we can conclude about this single, is that the song is just simply awesome. To this day, it still stands strong as one of Dave’s greatest accomplischments as a songwriter. Every time I hear it, I get cought up in the song. For me personally it also stands as the key track for the album The Colour and the Shape.
This single is also accompanied by a cool b-side called Drive Me Wild. This track was recorded for a BBC Radio One evening session, and is a cover. The track was originally recorded by the band Vanity 6. Vanity 6 was a band of three female vocalists, assembled by Prince. He also produced them. They recorded one album “Vanity 6” in 1982 and that album included this particular track. Check it out if you have the chance. It’s a cool way to hear what the Foos have actually done to the song to make it so good.
